RESOLUTION
FLYING SYSTEM

Funktion-One's flying system is the most elegant, effective and original solution ever devised to get a point source loudspeaker cluster in the air. An arena cluster can typically be assembled and flown by just two people in about 20 minutes. Furthermore, the hardware comes built in to the Resolution enclosures, with no bits to lose and no tools required. The cluster is solid and it is straightforward to aim the loudspeakers where they are required. Should re-aiming be necessary, Resolution enclosures are so light that two people can simply re-set the vertical angles without even dropping the cluster to the ground.

The following pictures illustrate the main features of the system. Since these pictures were taken, we have introduced a chain hoist in the back leg of the bridle to enable simple front to back levelling of the grid, (pictures of this revision can be found towards the end of the sequence).

This system is Patent Pending.

The 5 wide Resolution 5 flying grid is picked up by a single 3-leg bridle. Each spoke of the grid is fixed at the optimal horizontal splay angle of 20 degrees. This grid can also be used to fly three and four wide clusters. If a four wide cluster is required then the three bridle legs are moved to additional shackle points on the grid to retain balance, (one of these extra points can be seen to the bottom-right of the picture).

Close-up of front bridle leg attachment and column hanger attachment points on spoke of grid. For deep clusters, the columns are hung from the front point on the spoke (near to hand). For shallower clusters where there will not be so much pull-back required towards the bottom of the cluster, the top boxes can be brought closer together by using the point to left-centre of picture.

A rear view of the grid. (For four wide clusters the rear leg shackle point is just moved to the position to the left or right.

Chain chokes facilitate bridle leg length adjustment.

Column hangers are attached to each spoke of the grid by simple to use sprung sword pins that are captive to the column hanger. The safety steel passes over the grid and a carbine (snap) hook secures it to the other side of the column hanger.

Resolution 5 enclosures are aligned by the grid.

(Note, the dimensionally identical Res 4 and Res 18 enclosures can also be flown from this grid. Should the wider dispersion Resolution 4s be used they should only be located on every other column - interspersed with Res 18s. We make several variants of this grid with increased horizontal angle between spokes specifically designed for Res 4s on their own).

... they pass through holes in the column hangers...

...and are latched in place to secure the cabinet.

This is repeated with each enclosure on the top row.

Tilting straps are now attached to the grid using a smaller version of the sword pin on a special fitting that forms part of the strap.

Each spoke of the grid has several strap positions (discs) to achieve different kinds of kelp.

The grid is then raised and the next row of cabinets is arranged underneath.

The wheelboards are removed in seconds with special flip cathches.

Sprung flying tabs are hinged out from the bottom of the cabinets above and mated with the toggle pins to secure the second row.

This is repeated for each enclosure in the second row.

The 'biscomatic' auto spacer is set to achieve the required vertical splay angle between enclosures. (This can easily be adjusted later without even dropping the cluster).

The 'Biscomatic' adjustement is in 2.5 degree steps.

The cluster is then raised again and the next row of Resolution enclosures are aligned...

...and flown. The straps are then hooked into the bottom of the cluster and ratcheted appropriately.

It's as simple as that...

AND IT ONLY TAKES 20 MINUTES!

If downfills are required they can easily be added to the completed cluster without any further kelping requirement...

A recent refinement is the addition of a chain hoist in the rear leg of the bridle to faciliate easy front to back levelling of the flown grid...
